Hit the Gym or Hit the Waves?

If you find yourself struggling on what activity to to do in order to stay fit and enjoy the outdoors, surfing is a great choice and these are some of the health benefits.


Did you know that there are several great health benefits to surfing?  Surfing is known as being a fun and freeing activity, but there are a few more reasons why hitting the waves this year will make you a happier and healthier you!  First, let’s start with the surrounding elements.  Sea water contains magnesium, which can help improve the appearance and texture of skin and keep it hydrated.  Sea water is also known to help the immune system!  Spending time in the sun also has its health benefits.  The sun offers Vitamin D, plays a role in lowering cholesterol, and helps to lower blood pressure.

Surfing also offers an unmatched workout.  When paddling out into the waves, a surfer is building great upper-body strength while also getting a vigorous cardio exercise, which helps to increase lung capacity.  The process of standing up on the board requires flexibility, strength, and balance.  This can be one of the most challenging aspects to surfing.  Once the surfer stands up, he/she is using all core muscles and is practicing balance once again.

There you have it.  Your excuse for your next vacation to the beach? Your health! Who could argue that?
